KMCT is adjacent to the second channel of Kaohsiung Harbor. It is not subject to tunnel-crossing restrictions, allowing quick berthing for ships. The terminal is also close to the turning basin, thus shortening the turning time and giving carriers more time for sailing in the sea.

KMCT enjoys a convenient connection with the transport network. On the eastern side, the terminal is right next to the Freeway, which ends at the international airport, and also is connected to Xinsheng Rd., Yugand Rd., and the viaduct of Caoya Rd. These roads can ease the traffic of container trucks. Once the eastern side freeway is completed and open to traffic, the time required to connect Freeway NO.1 or Freeway NO.3 can be shortened.
